October 31 is Halloween!!! This festival is popular all over the world. I will tell you Halloween festival.


At first, why is called Halloween? November 1 is “All Saints’ Day (Hallowmas)”. So, October 31 is the eve of that day
?All Hallow Eve. Then it is called Halloween. Originally, this festival is a religion behavior of Celtic about 2,000 years ago. People believed that people who died come to life in this day.


Speaking of Halloween, Dressing up, Trick or Treat, Pumpkin!!! First is dressing up. Ancient people believed that dead people come back to life. So they get children to dress up and intend to drive off them. Second is “Trick or Treat”. People prepared treat as an offering to calm down ghosts. However, children wanted to get treat. So they began to say this word as a trick. Last is pumpkin. People make Jack-o-Lantern. It is the lantern of pumpkin. This is also for driving off ghosts.


Now, Halloween party is held all over the world. Children and adults enjoy this festival. In Portugal, this is starting to be a custom, and is already celebrated in many night places like bars and clubs.

 

But the Portuguese tradition is also kept. Children do not go to play trick or treat but they go ask for some traditional Portuguese cake called “merendeira” or some sweats and chocolates. The “merendeira” is a tipical little cake made especially from this time on until Christmas.

Improvements at home

When me and Angel bought our new apartment I had some things changed because as the apartment was still in construction it was possible to change one or two things, although they did not change everything we asked for, but we decided to keep what they choose and later on when we have some money maybe we can change small things that we like the most. One thing that we wanted to change was the kitchen faucet, we still have the one they choose but we will change it and I’ve been looking for bar faucets to see which one looks the best in my kitchen. One thing is for sure… I do not like the one that I have because it’s not functional and I’ll want it changed. Besides this I have lots of other things I would like to improve in my apartment by I have to start with the small things, like faucets.

Resources for English Teachers

As I told before, this year I’m not going to teach kids. Presently I’m preparing a Spanish and a English course but for adults. But as I know that sometimes it’s hard to find resources that can help us with material to prepare our classes and to make exercises I’ve decided to put here some I considered very useful when I needed. Summer is gone for it’s been some time now and it’s cooling down almost like in winter time. With this the will to stay at home seeing a movie and eating some popcorn or drinking hot chocolate has come too. I’ve been doing that for the past weekends and I have been feeling fatter again. Yesterday I’m been looking for several kinds of diets to find the one that is not too rigorous but that can bring some result. I believe that eating more fruits and vegetable, as well as doing some exercise can be an option but I’m considering in buying diet pills to accelerate the process. I found out some pills that seem pretty good for weight loss, I may buy Phentermine to use the next months to see the results on me. Reading about it I had the feeling that it is really good, so I think I would give it a try!

Light Recipe

As I’m trying to cook healthy I have been searching for some good light recipes, thus I’ve decided to share this one with you because, although I haven’t made it yet, I intend to make it soon and it seems really tasty .

Chicken Salad with Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato

 

INGREDIENTS

 3 cups chopped cooked chicken breast

5 slices bacon

2 stalks celery, chopped

1 cup chopped fresh tomato

3/4 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

2 tablespoons chopped green onion

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 dash Worcestershire sauce

salt and pepper to taste

12 leaves romaine lettuce

1 avocado - peeled, seeded and sliced

 

 

 

DIRECTIONS

 

Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside to cool.

Prepare the dressing by mixing together the mayonnaise, parsley, green onions, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper

Wedding Invitations

I think the two next years or so will be really a good time to get married… It’s always near the end of the year when I receive wedding invitations.

In the past 2 year also it happen the same, three of my friends got married and 2009 and 2010 they will continue. Maybe I’ll be a bride too in the next two years and I have my own wedding invitation to give.

Times really goes by very fast, it seems like yesterday we were all teenagers but now a lot of friends around me are settling down and starting their own family or planning it, one of the friends that got married is already pregnant.

Bamboo Shades

Lately I’ve been thinking how I should decorate the rest of my house. Has the money is not enough I have to give one step at the time, but I’ve decided the office must be the next room to be furnished. First I need to put a shade there and after some internet search I’ve found out some very simple but really nice and not too expensive, I found bamboo shades in several colors and in several sizes and I can pick the one that matches my office room. They are just what I was looking for to put there. Besides the office I also have the living room with no shades and although I have been thinking in other kind of shades, due to the price, I believe these ones would also be an option to consider.

Chocolate – Good or Bad?

Chocolate may be a serious problem for many people. Although they want to maintain the line, the chocolate is always there and they intake a few more calories. Rare are those who resist it! It comes slowly, in silence, and then it gets in front of your eyes, to test you. With that appetizing aspect, that just makes you want to devour, you cannot resist it and… ! You eat an entire bar of chocolate!
Resist the chocolate is a real issue for many people. Present not only in tablet, but also in many sweets or cakes, chocolate can make the delights of almost everyone. The main problem is that its excessive consumption is not good for the waistline, accentuating the excessive fat and calories ingested. Fine delicacies that there is truly irresistible, but the solution is to be stronger than them. Do not look at them and run from temptation!
Although the idea that chocolate has only harmful effect to our health is totally false. Like other food we eat, and that should not be ingested in large amounts, chocolate also becomes harmful only when it is consumed more than the limit line. In fact, chocolate contains in itself very positive characteristics that affect the proper functioning of your heart.
If you consume chocolate in a moderate way, without abuse there will be no major problem with your health. Now, if you consume it often, it is natural that the consequences of excess will appear soon. Sweets, bread or potatoes, when ingested in large amounts also have not very positive effects, but for the body to function proper functioning of its consumption is necessary.
The benefits of chocolate come from an existing substance in it, which can be found also in vegetables and some fruit. So, as we know that these foods do not affect the good functioning of the body, the chocolate can alarm us only when taken in excessive doses.
Chocolate contains so many calories that when accumulated, can produce serious problems in your health.
Therefore, those who really are fond of chocolate must make an effort to control themselves regarding it’s consumption, but there is no need to stop eating it completely. White, black, in cakes, in mousse, or as other kind of sweets, the chocolate is the delight of all. So, if you are doing a diet, you can also eat a piece once or twice a week. What is really important is eating in the right measure and not to abuse any food.
So, you want to do a diet you can eat some chocolate but do not forget, of course, exercise!
